Cyprus: The Schengen Zone 2026
Following the full accession of Romania and Bulgaria to the Schengen Zone, Cyprus is now setting its sights on joining as well — a move that would represent a major milestone for the country.
The Schengen Zone is made up of 29 European countries that have abolished internal border controls, allowing citizens and visitors to travel freely across member states without the need for visas or passport checks. Although Cyprus has been a member of the European Union since 2004, it has not yet joined the Schengen Zone. However, with the President’s recent announcement, Cyprus aims to become a full member of the Schengen Area by the end of 2025 — a change that would give its citizens and visitors easier access to the rest of Europe.
