Developments Expected
The situation regarding the future of the much-discussed marina construction project at Potima is expected to become clearer by September. Negotiations with the companies selected following the evaluation of the expressions of interest submitted during the initial stage are expected to commence next March.
These companies will be eligible to submit bids during the next stage of the process, which concerns the launch of the international tender. It should be noted that the strict terms and criteria established by the competent authorities include the requirement that the economic operators concerned must have completed projects with a value exceeding €60 million, including marina developments.
The tender conditions provide the successful bidder with two options regarding the development to be implemented in the area. The first option involves the construction of a marina with a capacity of 1,000 vessels, comprising both harbour facilities (70–80%) and land-based facilities (20–30%), together with residential and commercial developments, including a hotel.
The second option provides for a marina with the same capacity of 1,000 vessels, combined with residential and commercial developments and the construction of a cruise ship berthing facility.
In either case, the project involves the development of a modern, high-specification marina, the implementation of which will contribute to the achievement of strategic objectives and, among other benefits, strengthen the economy of the district.
The lease of the site on which the marina will be constructed will have a duration of 55 years and will cover an area of 166,000 square metres.
Construction works are expected to commence in April 2027.
